I've been following this very closely since this started. Earlier this year, (former?) Fangoria writer Kristy Jett started a kickstarter campaign for a new DVD release of the 1991 horror cult classic Popcorn. Watching her video, it truly seemed like she was credible with what she was saying and that really she was working hard to get this new DVD release and also was working hard on a new documentary. But she has kind of been shooting herself in the foot, in my opinion, especially whenever she has decided to take to her keyboard to defend her campaign. When the first campaign started, she was asking certain people in the horror industry to invest thousands of dollar and when they asked what they would get back from their investments, she really couldn't tell them alot and also took to offending/insulting a few of them. She has been kind of vague answering questions and has still not answered mine about where all of the extra money would go (I can only guess that it would go to the distributor) and how she planned on paying for the documentary since the kickstarter campaign and the Indie GoGo campaign (which both failed to meet their goals and weren't funded) were just for the film's new release. In the past 4 months, she has found someone to distribute it and also someone to clean up the print so it seems like this story ends with a happily ever after for the fans right?
Enter Code Red, public enemy #1 in the horror business. It seems that they are now after planning to release a new version of Popcorn 5 months before Kristy Jett's fan edition. There is alot of talk about them not really having the rights, but to be honest I don't really care too much at this point. It has seemed to switch Jett's stance from "Let's Get Popcorn Back On DVD" to "Buy Our DVD Because We Have The Rights!" and it is hurting her campaign more and more as she keeps sputtering out more shit against Code Red. She also has announced a Blu-ray since the Code Red news.
Here's my message to Kristy Jett: Code Red has had a history of not having the rights to films they announce so just leave it at that. Why does every facebook post on your page have to be about fucking Code Red and why are you going to post a fucking bog about it even after all of this bullshit? You'd think that the last two months of bitching would be enough. I mean you've already informed alot of people, most of which are too dumb in my opinion to own a computer, and they've taken it to themselves to write reviews on Code Red's amazon page calling them out on the rights issue. You've got your supporters and you have got this locked up and done so just leave it at that.
Which copy do I think you should buy? If you are scrapping for cash and don't care about features, buy Code Red's. It will drop fast from $18 to $10 in no time. If you want a copy filled with features or the supposed Blu-ray, then get Kristy Jett's which I can only guess would be priced between $20-30 for the DVD and then like $35 for the Blu-ray. Or if you'd really like, you could just buy a region 2 DVD like me and enjoy it for $3. It's your choice if you really care. You could buy the one that comes out quicker, the "one that was made possible" by the fans
